SPINKS TIPS AND GUIDELINES-Troubleshooting ?

A fade impression refers to an image whose colors have been appear smudged. The primary causes of fading is uneven heating, overheating and excessive pressure. Heat press accessories, such as a rubber pad or a Teflon sheet covering a transfer held in place with heat-resistant tape will prevent a fading of your image by reducing the variation in temperature across the surface. If everything is set correctly and you still have trouble, your transfer paper may be moving, ensure it is firmly attached with the heat tape.
Sometimes a “double image” appears when the transfer moves across the sublimable surface while it is still hot, usually when the press is lifted or while removing the transfer from the sublimation surface. To prevent this, it is recommended to always use a transfer sheet that is larger than the surface you are sublimating onto the surface. Ideally, the paper should secure it to the backside of your sublimable blank with heat resistant tape.
If possible, allow the piece to cool slightly before removing the transfer and tape.

Can you explain what Dye Sublimation means ?

The term Dye Sublimation simply defined as ‘Solid dye particles changed into gas using heat and pressure, which in turn bond with specific Polymers by converting into solid again without changing into liquid.

HEAT PRESS OR WRAPS?

For ‘flat’ items such as Mouse pad, coasters, tiles, garments, etc, you will need a flatbed heat press. It is not possible to obtain the consistency of heat and pressure required using a home iron.

For mugs and glasses you can use a mug press or alternatively we offer economical mug wraps which enable you to do sublimation on mugs in a standard home oven.

A range of alternative heat presses are also available for specialized items like bags, caps and plates. Full details on the range of heat presses can be found on our website or Catalogue.

HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY PRODUCE A PRINTED ITEM ?

For this example we will explain how to produce a Tile.

Firstly you would produce your image using a suitable graphics package, such as Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. You have to make the image size a little larger to allow the image to ‘bleed’ over the edge of the Tile so that there is no white edge showing.

The mirror image is required to printed out, onto sublimation paper. The resulting transfer is then laid face up and the Tile is laid onto it, printable side down. The image is aligned in position and then heat resistant tape is used to hold the transfer in place so that the Tile can be be heat pressed with the transfer face up.

For a Tile the heat press would be preheated to 220

DYE SUBLIMATION INKS ?

Dye sublimation inks are available in cartridges or as bulk supply systems for a various range of printers. We distribute the tested dye sublimation ink used many customers worldwide. Please see our inks page for full details of our range of supported A4, A3 and A2 printers. You need to set up a special profile on your computer system so that it prints the sublimation inks correctly. We supply full details of how to set up the color profiles on your computer and offer ongoing technical support

PRINTERS

Printers used for sublimation printing are with Piezo electric print heads made by many companies It works by means of a tiny crystal in the head that pulsates with a small electrical charge forcing droplets of ink out from the Piezo Crystal onto the paper with no heat being generated. This print head is fitted in all sublimation printers and many large format printers and is the only print head that will work for sublimation printing.

WHAT CANNOT BE SUBLIMATION PRINTED?

Dye sublimation printing is always done on a polyester, polymer, or polymer coated items . It is possible to sublime print on cotton fabric but the image will wash out after few washes.

WHAT IS DYE SUBLIMATION PRINTING?

Sublimation printing is the application of sublimation inks onto a surface using a combination of heat, time and pressure on to the printed surface . This combination causes the inks to convert from a solid to a gaseous state without turning into liquid enabling them to penetrate the sublimable surface so that a permanent, full color image is transferred. The color penetrates the surface of the item so that the result is colorful, long lasting and resistant to scratch.

Dye sublimation printing is always done on a polyester, polymer, or polymer coated objects which can sustain high temperature. At high temperatures, the solid dye converts into a gas without turning into liquid. The same high temperature opens the pores of the polymer and allows the gas to penetrate. When the temperature reduced, the pores close and the gas converts to a solid state. Now it has become a part of the polymer. For this reason dye sublimation cannot be done or difficult on natural materials such as 100% cotton. Reason — Natural fibers and non-coated materials have no “pores” to open so no penetration of sublimation ink.

What’s sublimation product.?

By applying a sublimation coating on the outside of an object, e.g. CERAMIC/METAL/GLASS products ? etc., photos are printed using the dye-sublimation method which produces excellent bright, vivid colors unobtainable by any other means. The digital images, could be scenic, or your own photos, is first printed using sublimation inks onto sublimation paper as a carrier, which is then wrapped around the outside of a cylinder surface or placed onto a flat surface. Under heat and pressure, the image is permanently transferred on the surface of the sublimation products.
The product is washable and microwave safe. The whole process is hand-made one by one therefore is suitable for small orders. However, the price will be much higher than ordinary decals transferred Mugs. But again Sublimation Quality is uncomparable to Decal transferred Mugs.

Varying storage conditions may have an effect on the moisture content of transfer paper. To eliminate moisture from transfers, place the printed transfer 2

Why choose sublimation products?

Sublimation products can be used as marketing promotion or personal gifts products.
As mentioned before, the image quality on sublimation product is extraordinary clear, bright, and vivid which is unmatchable by any other means. More importantly, the product hand-made therefore its more personalized product or gift than any other products. All of your own digital photograph, company logo, scenic images can be printed onto the sublimation products, which makes your product really different and extraordinary special.
